While significant efforts have been made to respond to the phenomenon of electoral violence, very little is known in specific contexts the circumstances under which civil society organizations succeed in electoral violence prevention. This study proposes to use qualitative research tools (semi-structured interviews and focus group discussion) to collect data on key question; how CSOs collaborate with other actors in the prevention of electoral violence in Ghana. The study focuses on CSOs such as CODEO, IDEG, and IEA. The time-frame for the study is 2008 and 2012. The study seeks to highlight a significant point of how institutional rivalry undermines the quest to prevent electoral violence. It expects to find out the nuances in managing institutional rivalry in Ghana in order to ensure the prevention of electoral violence. The study provides an opportunity to appreciate within the Ghanaian context how CSOs ensure losers consent to prevent electoral violence.
