SOCIO-POLITICAL EFFECTS OF MILITARY INVOLVEMENT IN DOMESTIC SECURITY IN KENYA

The research title is SOCIOPOLITICAL EFFECTS OF MILITARY INVOLVEMENT IN DOMESTIC SECURITY IN KENYA. The use of military in domestic security affairs falls in the extended field of civil-military relations. As countries transition to democratic ideals with associated reforms to its state security organs like the police, there is increased propensity to deploy the military forces and its resources, military-like apparatus and skills to provide security. Besides, elected officials find it convenient to use instruments of force to assert their legitimacy. Coupled with contemporary intra-state security concerns the traditional line between the police and the military forces is blurred as the later is frequently called upon to carry out the police duties. This research will aim at exposing the effects of military deployment for internal security purposes, an arena that belongs to the police services. The proposed stage shall be the Kenya military deployment in to fight Sabaot Militia in Mt.Elgon, Disarmament of Cattle Rustlers in North Rift, Involvement in Shifta Wars in the Northern Frontier Districts and War on Alshabab Terror group in Kenya. I will employ both qualitative and quantitative techniques in the research.
