APN and Next Gen 2021 Virtual Fellows Research Methods Workshop

The Social Science Research Council’s African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (Next Gen) programs held their joint virtual fellows Research Methods Workshop from September 28-30, 2021. The workshop featured activities ranging from keynote lectures by leading scholars, cohort/thematic workshop and one-on-one mentoring sessions, and a joint fellows discussion panel. Research Workshop on Disinformation, Democratic Processes, and Conflict Prevention

On January 30, 2020, the SSRC convened the second research workshop of its Academic Network on Peace, Security, and the United Nations in New York, an initiative of the Council’s Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum (CPPF) and its Understanding Violent Conflict (UVC) Program. This workshop, on “Disinformation, Democratic Processes, and Conflict Prevention,” examined the frameworks, findings, and debates in emerging scholarship on information disorder and the linkages between disinformation, elections, hate speech, and identity-based violence. International Peace Research Association (IPRA) 28th Biennial Conference, Nairobi

African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (NextGen) fellows were part of the delegates of the 28th Biennial IPRA conference, that was held in Nairobi Kenya, from January 10-15, 2021. IPRA’s purpose is to advance research into the conditions of peace and the causes of war and other forms of violence. The African Peacebuilding Network Grantee Research Methods Training and the Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa Bi-Annual Fellows Joint Virtual Workshop

The Social Science Research Council’s African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and the Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (Next Gen) programs had their first virtually held joint fellows workshop from August 31st, 2020 to September 3rd, 2020. Africa-Asia ‘A New Axis of Knowledge’ Second Edition

The Africa-Asia conference titled ‘Africa-Asia ‘A New Axis of Knowledge’ took place at the University of Dar es Salaam from 20th to 22nd September 2018. The Next Generation program of the Social Sciences Research Council of New York sponsored a panel of five budding scholars from Eastern Africa. The title of the panel was: Native Land Rights, Peasant Livelihoods and Global Capitalist Expansion in Africa. Bi-Annual Fellows Workshop

Nairobi, Kenya – Fellows from the Social Science Research Council’s (SSRC) Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (Next Gen) program gathered in Nairobi, Kenya, during the second week of January for the 14th bi-annual fellows workshop.  The event was held in partnership with United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa), and in collaboration with the SSRC’s African Peacebuilding Network (APN) program, which held its grantees workshop from January 9-11, 2019. 28 doctoral dissertation proposal development and research fellows from eight African countries were joined by five dynamic workshop facilitators and convened in Nairobi for the three-day event.  The workshop was designed to help …

The African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and the Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (Next Gen) program held a national proposal writing workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Participants were given the opportunity to share their draft projects and research proposals with their peers and several experienced mentors. The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) and Search for Common Ground (SFCG) in association with Conflict Prevention and Resolution Forum (CPRF), held a conference on “Rethinking Approaches to Chronic Crises in Africa: American and African Perspectives,” at the John Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies’ Kenney Auditorium, on March 5, 2020.
