The practice of project monitoring and evaluation (M&E) aids results-based decision-making in the project cycle management through a thorough approach to quality data collection. The application of suitable analytical tools in order to measure the proficiency and effectiveness of development interventions in defined contexts over time provides more knowledge on the approaches of interventions that work best, in different contexts. This paper will emphasize the value of applying M&E information systems to advance both project outcomes, impact and understanding of the best method to assist peaceful development in contexts prone to violent conflict in Nigeria. The study will add to existing research knowledge by illustrating M&E strategies and tactics in conflict prone situations in Nigeria, framing discussion of the utility of key M&E practices and approaches where stability and security are lacking and the development of flexible M&E systems most suitable to provide useful information under extreme uncertainty.
