Award Information
The historical experiences of agricultural development in Japan and the United States and the influence of those experiences on the principles and methods of implementation used by the two countries in development assistance today will be compared in a collaborative program of research and teaching with faculty at Asia University and the College of Agriculture of the University of Tokyo. The program will involve visits to prefectural experiment stations and interviews with key prefectural research and extension personnel; collection and critical assessment of Japanese-language local documents and literature on Japan's domestic agricultural development and post-war experience in international agricultural development, with comparisons made with the U.S. land-grant system of agricultural universities linking research, extension, and higher education, and with post-war U.S. approaches to international agricultural development; and development and teaching of a course on international agricultural development based on the above comparative research.
