Bio

Rose Mbezi is a PhD candidate at the University of Dar es Salaam. She holds a Master of Philosophy in anthropology of development from Bergen University (Norway), Masters of Arts and Bachelor of Arts both from University of Dar Es Salaam and a Diploma in Education from Marangu Teachers college. She has over 20 years of experience in projects, programs, research and forums in relation to gender and development endeavors. She has participated in different project assignments regarding gender and development in the following sectors: Health, Crop-Livestock, Fisheries, Agriculture, Tourism, Land, informal sector, Gender Based Violence and Fertilizer. Her involvement in the named sectors range from project design, community engagement, field data collection, data analysis, report writing and dissemination of research findings at national and international forums. Rose is also involved in children rights initiatives by advocating their rights through mass media.
Mbezi has served in a number of gender and development activities including Gender Focal Person for the Ministry of Agriculture, member for Gender Macro Working Group- Macro policies under the secretariat of Research on Poverty Alleviation, Team leader for community engagement component for the Big Results Now initiative. She has also co-authored an article with Porter Marilyn in 2010 titled “From Hand to Mouth: Why Fisheries Projects Fail to Alleviate Household Poverty” in the Canadian Journal of Development Studies. Rose also serves as feature writer in different newspapers. Positions and experiences Rose has accumulated over the years have enabled her a rewarding capacity in research, gender and development programs and projects management.
