US-Japan Comparative Study of Community Networks and Volunteer Community Assisting the Elderly

A sociological approach to determining the mechanism by which people are mobilized to join social activities or community volunteer activities by researching volunteer community groups and organizations. Research on welfare activity networks, groups, and organizations in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California, will be conducted by observing and participating in these groups and by interviewing the members to clarify financial background, loca1 governmental assistance or public aid, the process of mobilizing members, advertizing or publicity strategies, and know-how of managing these volunteer activity groups. Also, I plan to interview the corporations and private organizations which are assisting volunteer groups. This research will clarify social function of community networks and volunteer community activity in the United States.
