Applicants will be required to upload a proposal as part of the online application. Below are the guidelines.


Your proposal should consist of the following components:

  • An introduction, which establishes your research topic, introduces your specific research problem, and outlines its significance (approximately two pages).
  • A review of the most relevant literature and how your research intersects with these studies (approximately two pages).
  • A brief overview of your research team. This section should explain who is in your team, where they are located, and the skills and experience they bring to your project. It should also outline your previous experience of working together (approximately two pages).
  • An explanation of the methods you will use to conduct your research. This section should explain how the chosen methodologies are best suited to answer your research question, and should outline the responsibilities of each team member (approximately two pages).
  • An outline of the project’s anticipated outcomes and impact. This may include output, such as publications, the creation of digital/creative media, or policy recommendations, among others (approximately one page).
  • A timeline of the activities your team intends to undertake during the period of August 2021–August 2022 (approximately one page).
  • A focused bibliography of the most relevant academic texts (two pages).


  • Length: Proposals should be no more than 12 pages in total (including bibliography).
  • Spacing: The body text should use double spacing; footnotes, if absolutely necessary, may use single spacing.
  • Font: Preferred font is Times New Roman, 11 point. A smaller size may be used for footnotes.
  • File type: Documents should be uploaded in PDF format.
