The central question addressed in 1997 IDRF Fellow Moises Arce’s account of Fujimoro’s Peru is how liberal market reforms affect the relative strength of different social groups. This places the book in a quite different class from the numerous ethnographically inclined studies of Latin American grass roots social movements, on the one hand, and more narrowly economic analyses on the other.
