About

Dr. Ajlai Basu is Program Officer for the Religion and the Public Sphere program. Trained as a global historian, she has worked on the intersections between religion and women’s rights in South and Southeast Asia in the early twentieth century. She is interested in the ways in which religion animates popular movements for social change. She holds a PhD in History from the University of California, Berkeley, an MPhil in Social Anthropological Analysis from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelors degree from the University of Oxford in English Literature and Language.
