At the request of DPA, CPPF organized a meeting on the changing role of China in Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting brought together academic and policy experts and UN counterparts, and examined the role of China as a growing economic and political presence in the region; and how this role has been affected by recent economic troubles in the Asian countries and the shifting political tendencies in key countries in Latin America. The meeting also examined how this changing relation with China has impacted intra-regional alliances, and the standing role of the United States as the hegemonic power in the region.
