Bio

Efetobor Stephanie Effevottu is a PhD candidate at the Department of History, University of Ibadan. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history (2014) from the University of Benin and a Master’s of Art degree in history (2017) from the University of Ibadan. She is a junior fellow of the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA-Nigeria). She is a member of the Social Science and Humanities Research Association, Historical Society of Nigeria and the Midwest Political Science Association.
Effevottu’s areas of specialization lie in religion, gender, peacebuilding, and development studies. Her Master’s dissertation centers around unravelling the role of the Catholic Justice Development and Peace Commission on Women Empowerment in Ibadan. Her interest in peacebuilding is what inspired her to focus her PhD thesis on the Catholic Church and Peacebuilding in Post-Civil War Nigeria. Her work on the catholic church and women empowerment has been accepted as an article in a book scheduled for publication (2020) by Cambridge Scholars Publishers.
Effevottu is also interested in migration studies particularly with respect to irregular migration. Her paper titled “Unravelling the Nigerian irregular migration quandary to southern Europe in the twenty first century” has been accepted for publication by Routledge in the Intra-Africa migration volume. She is currently co-authoring a paper titled, “For the greater good: The irregular migrant quest for upward social mobility and its impact on the family unit in Nigeria” which is part of a book project on separated families by the Migration Institute of Finland.
