Kyrenia marina in Cyprus, as seen from the overlooking hill

Overview

CPPF has a long record of programming on Cyprus, the Balkans, and with so-called “frozen conflicts,” including Ukraine. In recent years, interest in the Eastern Mediterranean as a resource and market for natural gas and energy-security cooperation has grown since the discovery of large-scale natural gas deposits. In response, CPPF activities aim to help inform a greater understanding of the multidimensional dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean, which, given the region’s geographic positioning, cut across multiple UN regional divisions and field presences. CPPF thus provides UN officials a platform for cross-regional information-sharing and analysis.

Current Projects:
Cyprus migration: At the request of UNFICYP, CPPF is planning to organize an expert workshop on the implications of irregular migration on the island. This workshop will help inform the mission’s confidence-building efforts.
